SAFETY & HEALTH
At Great Lakes E&I, we are committed to ensuring secure work environments with goals to minimize risk to both individual health and property under all circumstances, while providing superior service in environmental remediation and infrastructure technologies. Our productivity does not take priority over safety.
Our STOP-TALK-ACCEPT culture allows all employees, regardless of trade or rank, to feel responsible and empowers them to take action for their own safety as well as those around them. Additionally, our Incident & Injury-Free (IIF)® approach keeps us focused on injury prevention, responsible actions, and sustained commitment.
The History of Safety at Great Lakes
In 2006, Douglas Mackie, President of Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, made the decision to change the company’s values and day-to-day operations by elevating safety operations to the highest priority. To help, Great Lakes brought in an international safety consulting firm to usher in a new approach to safety – the Incident-and Injury-Free (IIF®) safety program which has been integrated into all aspects of our company’s culture. IIF® enforces accountability and compliance of rules and regulations, creating a safety-oriented mindset that helps to eliminate work-related incidents and injuries.
