The Gilt Edge Mine Superfund Site is located southeast of the town of Deadwood, South Dakota. The site is an abandoned open pit, cyanide heap leach gold mine developed in highly sulfuric rock. Great Lakes E&I was contracted to excavate, screen and relocate 100,100 cy of material within Cell G for future use, as well as the perform the construction of the North Primary Access Road which included installing 32,076 lf of HDPE pipe. At the completion of the removal of the material in Cell G, spent ore was screened and placed within the footprint to facilitate future sludge placement. Much of the North Access Road required blasting in order to achieve the required lines and grades of the road alignment.
