CalRecycle – Wind Complex Fire Debris Removal & Recovery Services
Butte, Nevada and Yuba County
The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) was tasked by the California Department of Emergency Services (CalOES) to manage and coordinate a debris removal project in Butte, Nevada and the surrounding Yuba Counties to remove fire debris material from residential structures destroyed by the Wind Complex Fires. As the prime contractor on this project, E&I supplied 12 crews and collaborated with Teichert Construction and Steelhead Construction to supply the remaining 13 crews each of which were comprised of 2 operators, 2 laborers, a crew truck, an excavator, a skid steer, and a water wagon. Crews worked in level C PPE to complete an average of 1 lot per 2 shifts. E&I partnered with Scandia Trucking to manage the daily dispatching requirements of 125 to 150 trucks to new addresses for each morning. From 245 lots, E&I removed 500 cy of asbestos, 2,000 tons of metal, 30,000 tons of debris, 7,300 tons of concrete, and 6,400 tons of contaminated soils which was hauled to the appropriate landfill or recycling facility. The success of this project was due to the incredible teamwork, effort, and attitude of all parties involved.
